Cobot 6A10, the foundry revolution

COBOTS

In foundries, grinding is a tedious task that all professionals seek to mechanize, or even automate. This allows you to avoid exposure to vibrations, reduce the arduousness and improve safety and ambient working conditions: dust collection, insulation of cabins that reduce noise, etc. We are seeing more and more robotic cells in service in foundries that manufacture in large or medium series.

However, a certain number of cases do not allow grinding to be mechanized:

– Large parts (from 100 kg to several tons) are often manufactured individually or in very small series. The mechanization of grinding can quickly become a challenge because it requires machines that are the size of this type of part on the one hand, but also the ability to develop programs that will allow grinding to operate efficiently. The return on investment and the technical risk are often considered prohibitive in these situations, and grinding remains manual. The use of the 6A10 RB3D cobot then makes perfect sense!

– Medium-sized parts (from 20 to 100 kg) in small series are also still often ground by hand. Indeed, it is not uncommon for the time required to develop a robotic cell on a small series to be greater than the overall grinding time to be carried out. In this case, the manufacturer prefers to entrust the grinding to a specialized manual team or to a subcontractor. In this case too, the use of the 6A10 grinding assistant is interesting. It allows the work to be kept in-house without the risk of MSDs and thus reduces human and logistical costs and risks.
