In 2022, our 4A350 cobot for the charging port was called upon to meet a new need. A cling film manufacturing company was looking for a solution to relieve its operators when handling reels.

 

On the station in question, the cling film passes through a slitter in order to be divided into several reels, which are then automatically swung onto an unloading arm. The operators then intervene to unload the reels from the arm and place them on pallets. The task is particularly hard on the upper limbs and the back, especially when it comes to coils weighing up to 80 kg.

 

The RB3D team then worked on the design of a new gripper, specific to this application. It works by expansion and can accommodate the different reels of film produced by the company, in terms of weight and diameter. The operator only has to slide them on the cobot gripper and then move them effortlessly and without risk.

 

After a successful installation just a year ago, the company is more than happy with our manipulator and has ordered a second from us. The latter was assembled in July and has just left the workshop to join its twin in the North of France.
