HANDLE YOUR TOOLS EFFORTLESSLY

6A10 cobot manipulator is the ideal tool handling assistant. The 6A10 cobot is controlled directly by the user’s hand, by measuring their intention. All axes are electrically motorized, allowing for total control. Precision, speed, and strength are there, whatever the task at hand. When used as a grinding aid, the 6A10 cobot can be equipped with the most powerful grinders for greater productivity, without fatigue.

IDEAL AS A GRINDING ASSISTANT

•Simplicity: intuitive and immediate handling of the tool manipulation assistant for greater ergonomics.
• Strength: Amplifies the user’s strength, to work without fatigue.
• Protection: isolates the operator from vibrations.
• Guidance: Optionally, the 6A10 cobot offers various guidance assistance functions.
• Safety: Ensures firm hold and secure position of the tool to prevent accidents.
• CE conformity: the 6A10 cobot complies with directive 2006/42/EC.

A SAFE AND ADAPTABLE DESIGN FOR EFFICIENT GRINDING

6A10 cobot, grinding assistant, consists of a 7-axis poly-articulated arm powered by high-end, compact and powerful servomotors. Each axis offers flexibility and responsiveness to control requests. The main axes are braked and lockable for a firm and stable position. The handle has a force sensor that powers the controller to control the 6A10 grinding assistant intuitively and safely. Proximity to the operator is therefore achieved with safety and ergonomics. All the IT elements are grouped and protected in an industrial cabinet, suitable for the most demanding environments such as foundries. On request, it is possible to modify the dimensions of the 6A10 cobot tool handling assistant to meet the requirements of your application or the constraints of your environment.

Georges answers your questions

Should I change my grinder?

In the grinding industry, the finishing process defines the type of grinder to be used to cut, shave, and finish the internal or external surfaces of a part. Depending on the grinding task to be performed, it may be necessary to use several types of grinders with the Cobot 6A10. We have therefore provided a tool change solution, which allows several grinders to be quickly interchanged on the 6A10 cobot (up to 7!). Thanks to the tool detection system, any type of angle grinder or straight grinder, equipped with their consumables, are automatically recognized by the 6A10 cobot, and it then adjusts its control parameters.

Should I change my grinding consumables (wheels, discs)?

The longer you grind on a part, the more you will wear out the grinding consumables. They must therefore be changed from time to time. With the Cobot 6A10 it is the same because it uses standard commercial grinders. It is sometimes possible to optimize the life of the grinding consumables because the cobot avoids shocks due to the installation or the dropping of the grinder which is harmful to the disc or the wheel. There is no automatic detection of consumable wear, so the operator’s eye is enough to spot a consumable that needs changing.

What energy is needed to power the arm and the grinders?

6A10 cobot is equipped with servomotors that are powered by 48V. For the cobot arm to work, it must be supplied with electricity (230V/50 Hz) via its electrical cabinet. To protect the 6-axis sensor installed under the control handles, it also needs a little compressed air, to ensure a healthy overpressure in the sensor. As for the grinders equipping the cobot, all energies are possible: compressed air, high-frequency alternating current, normal alternating current.

What types of parts cannot be ground with the cobot?

6A10 cobot is well suited for grinding large parts for which there is a lot of shaving work to be done. On the other hand, it is less suitable for working on small parts. Indeed, there is generally much less material to shave on small parts and therefore the use of the 6A10 cobot is less justified. Furthermore, on parts with complex shapes, the accessibility of the 6A10 arm to internal or hollow areas is sometimes difficult to obtain. It is therefore sometimes necessary to know how to adapt the manual process and provide suitable tools if you want to work efficiently with the 6A10 cobot. Our specialists can advise you in this case.

What level of vibration damping is achieved with the cobot?

One of the advantages of the 6A10 cobot is the significant reduction in the level of vibration exposure to workers’ hands and arms. Various measurements carried out by the INRS (French National Institute for Scientific Research) and subsequently by some of our most demanding clients have shown that with the 6A10 cobot, operator vibration exposure is reduced by 80% compared to manual grinding with the same tool and consumables.

This generally allows the operator to remain below the recommended minimum daily exposure threshold (A8 of 2.5 m/s2 according to current requirements), and thus avoids the risk of MSDs or white finger disease (Raynaud’s syndrome) for users.

How does the vibration damping principle work?

6A10 cobot’s arm can support any type of grinder thanks to a mechanical system custom-designed by our design office. We call this part a tool adapter, and it is mounted integrally with the grinding tool. Each grinder has its own adapter, which is equipped with an integrated vibration damping solution based on carefully placed anti-vibration mounts to maximally dampen the vibrations created by the grinder during use.

Thus, a large portion of the vibrations are dampened, and only a small portion is transmitted to the cobot, which further dampens them. Since the operator has their hands on the cobot’s handles and not on the grinder, they are therefore only subjected to the remaining vibrations.

Can any type of grinder be used?

6A10 cobot is designed to accommodate any type of grinder, provided it weighs less than 10 kg, once equipped with its adapter. RB3D will integrate the power connection system into the adapter, enabling it to power the grinder and ensure secure control. Therefore, if a customer asks us to adapt a new grinder, we must conduct a feasibility study and design the adapter.

However, given the power provided by the 6A10, it is understood that its use is primarily for powerful, and therefore heavy, grinders. So far, we have not seen any cases justifying equipping the 6A10 with small finishing grinders.

Is the machine protected against projections of incandescent particles?

Grinding is an extremely demanding activity, both physically and physically, due to the noise of the grinders and the projection of dust and particles. Generally, a foundry is equipped with a good dust extraction system, but this does not (and should not!) allow for the suction of molten metal particles projected by the disc or grinding wheel, as this could cause a fire in the dust filters.

These particles can therefore be projected all over the grinding area and therefore onto the cobot itself. We therefore deliver the cobot with a protective cover for the arm and the cable ducts. This is made of a gold-colored fabric that is resistant to abrasion and incandescent particles. The parts not protected by this cover are installed behind protective walls to prevent projections onto potentially sensitive components.

Is the cobot protected against dust?

Most of the cobot consists of closed subassemblies that prevent dust from entering. The main part of the 6A10’s arm, however, is open to allow the cobot to move vertically. This part is therefore protected from dust by the protective cover against incandescent particles.

All exposed cables are equipped with closed connectors that prevent dust from entering.

The electrical cabinet is always sealed to ensure dust-tightness. It is also equipped with cable glands at the cable entry points to prevent dust from entering. Finally, the most sensitive part of the 6A10 cobot, the 6-axis sensor, is pressurized with air to repel any dust or particle intrusion.
